Six candidates in Division 4 by-election

3rd April 2009

Six candidates will contest Redland City Council’s Division 4 by-election on 9 May. The candidates (in the order they will appear on the ballot, following the ballot draw) are:

Brian Howard-Clarke, Russell Island

Desley Fay Mathers, Thornlands

Gary Raymond Mullholland, Victoria Point

Leena Rose Ann Brooks, Victoria Point

Rosemary Dale Skelly, Victoria Point

John Leonard Burns, Redland Bay

Chief Executive Officer Gary Stevenson was pleased to see such strong community interest in local government, and such a strong field of candidates for voters to choose from.

“It’s still relatively early in Council's four-year term, so the elected Councillor for Division 4 will play an important role with other Councillors in determining the future for the community,” Mr Stevenson said.

“It’s now important for voters to find out about candidates and what they stand for prior to the election, so they can make an informed decision on election day.”

The by-election, necessary after the previous Councillor, Peter Dowling, resigned to contest the state election, will be conducted by the Australian Election Company, with Richard Kidd as Returning Officer.

Voting is compulsory for all eligible voters in Division 4, which covers Victoria Point and Coochiemudlo Island.
