Mayor welcomes $842,000 Commonwealth funding

Redland City Mayor Melva Hobson has welcomed the Commonwealth Government’s approval of $842,000 in local Infrastructure funding for the Redlands.

Included in the projects funded are new shaded play and picnic areas and physical activity stations across 12 of the city’s parks, as well as pedestrian connections, new bus shelters and revamped community meeting facilities.

“Projects like the $215,000 approved for the construction of the Hilliard’s Creek Track at Ormiston will go to contract, supporting jobs and adding to the attractiveness of the Redlands for tourists and residents alike,” Councillor Hobson said.

All the projects approved by the Commonwealth (see attached list) were submitted for funding by Redland City Council.

“We are delighted the Commonwealth has now approved these projects and we can begin work,” Councillor Hobson said.

The Redlands infrastructure projects funded by the Commonwealth are expected to be completed within the next 12 months.

$235,000Shade in Parks Program

To deliver at least one new shaded play and picnic area in parks in 10 local communities.

Location: Various

$215,000Construction of Hilliards Creek Track, Ormiston

For the construction of a bike track to link to other tracks, environmental corridors, the school and residential areas in Ormiston. Location: Dundas to Sturgeon Street, Ormiston.

$77,000Redevelopment of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands Community Facility, Russell Island

To modify an existing building to accommodate a community meeting space.

Location: 23 Nicholas Street, Russell Island.

$100,000Physical activity station

$50,000Bus Shelter Improvement Program

To upgrade existing bus stop infrastructure to ensure appropriate disabled access, waiting and boarding areas. Location: various

$50,000 u pgrade of Pioneer Park, Lamb Island

To upgrade Pioneer Park, including bringing the sporting field and tennis courts to relevant standards; includes construction of a concrete base and synthetic wicket for a cricket pitch, and a new shade shelter for the tennis courts.

Location: 125-133 Lucas Drive, Lamb Island.

$45,000b icycle parking

To provide secure and convenient parking for bicycles at several locations in accordance with Australian Standards. Location: various.

$40,000Capalaba Police Citizens Youth Club refurbishment

To refurbish amenities at the PCYC community indoor sports facility in Capalaba. Location: 278-300 Mount Cotton Road, Capalaba.

$30,000Construction of Point Lookout pedestrian bridge

To construct a pedestrian bridge, extending across the open stormwater drainage line, to provide linkage between the Point Lookout Community Hall, local park and youth facilities. Location: Lot 130 Mooloomba Road, Point Lookout.
