Bay Views’ takes to the seas
21th April 2009
On June 27, a ferry will cruise Moreton Bay screening a series of short films - ‘Bay Views’ - that celebrate the values and visions of the communities of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
It will be perhaps the world’s most imaginative film premiere.
Artist Christine Dew, one of the duo that brought you the highly successful animated short film ‘It Never Did Sink’ will present the latest community creations, a series of short digital stories that explore and celebrate island life. The Bay Views mini films have been created in close collaboration with local residents and, in the case of two children’s animations, with award winning animator, Dave Jones.
‘Bay Views’ is supported by Council and the state government as part of their commitment to engage more deeply, creatively and more productively with the Macleay, Russell, Karragarra and Lamb Island communities.
A community art fair with a range of activities for young and old will be held at Moreton Bay’s Karragarra Island culminating in the launch of a “raft of ideas” to commemorate the community’s participation in the Redlands 2030 planning process.
Activities on the day will include children’s and adult’s art activities, food and entertainment, creative visions for the Redlands, and the Bay Views film premiere on a BITS floating picture theatre.
Council invites locals to grab the family, pack a picnic and visit Karragarra Island to take part in this truly unique experience.
Not only will you help celebrate the world premiere of one of the Redlands’ films but you will also be providing a livelihood for talented, local artists.
So, if like many of us, you are used to watching movies in the confines of a closed room and are wondering what it would be like to view the latest whilst sailing the seas, then make a diary date to come along to Karragarra Island for the world premiere of ‘Bay Views’ and take part in a unique celebration.
