7th May 2009
Cleveland Point has been announced as a key film location in the continuing negotiations with the Pacific Film and Television Commission (PFTC) for the filming of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, the latest instalment in the internationally popular Narnia films.
The negotiations with Walden Media and Twentieth Century Fox production for the film’s production in Queensland have included Cleveland Point because if its proximity to the open and unspoilt bay vistas.
Redland City Mayor Melva Hobson welcomed today’s announcement.
“This is great news for Redland City,” the Mayor said.
“Hosting this production here in the Redlands will help to globally and nationally promote the wonderful tourism delights of the Redlands, its beautiful bay and Islands and provide benefits for the local economy.
“The negotiations for filming at historic Cleveland Point have included careful consideration of the interests of visitors, businesses and residents alike and once the announcement has been officially made, we are keen to work closely with film-makers to ensure any impact on local residents is minimised as much as possible.
“I am confident the Redlands community will get behind this production and enjoy the opportunity to witness the production of this very popular international film right on their doorstep.
“Filming will only have a short term impact but long term benefits to the city’s important tourism industry.
“Once filming is finished, work will commence on the exciting master planned improvements to the Cleveland Point Reserve, with funding support from the Commonwealth Government,” Mayor Hobson said.
Film set production and removal is expected to take place at Cleveland Point site over four months, with actual filming at the site to take less than three weeks during this period.
