Big Attendance For Weinam Creek Community Forums

Island residents turned out in force for the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area community forums.

Two events were held for Weinam Creek at Redland Bay and also at the Macleay Island Progress Hall.

The Forums were all about informing and encouraging public consultation.

A draft document for the development sets out the proposed land uses, development criteria and associated infrastructure envisaged for the PDA's at Weinam Creek and Toondah Harbour.

The Progress Hall on Macleay Island was literally 'packed to the rafters' when the forum was brought to the islands by the Queensland State Government and Redland City Council.

The delegation was headed by Member for Redlands Peter Dowling and Division 5 representative for Redland City Council, Cr Mark Edwards.

The project director for the PDA projects, Peter Kelly, also attended.

Member for Redlands, Peter Dowling, said he was 'impressed' by the attendances,
both at Redland Bay and Macleay Island.
"There were a lot of people and the general reaction seemed to be optimistic and upbeat.
"These Forums were designed to educate and to inform and to encourage comment and participation. I think we achieved that."
"As for the Weinam project in particularly, both Cr Mark Edwards and myself are driving it to make it happen. And I know we will get it right," he told The Friendly Bay Islander.

Cr Marks Edwards was impressed with the turnout on Macleay Island and by the interest shown.

"People have responded to the initiative and their knowledge was impressive.
"It is about informing, listening and contributing, and I hope we have achieved that," he said.
