State Government Underestimate Bay Islands Population Growth
The increase in population on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands is almost twice that what the Queensland Government has been projecting. This was the result of a new study by Redland City Council into the islands population and demographic trends.

The Bay Islands population last year has now been revealed to have been 5200. This figure was not expected to have been reached until 2014.The ultimate population for the SMBI of 24,000 people is now expected to be reached by 2060, 80 years earlier than the State Governments prediction of the year 2140.
