“Red Tape Reduction” declared a Council priority

Redland City Council has voted to create a “Red Tape Reduction” taskforce as part of a “Back to Basics” reform program.

Within weeks of taking office, the new Redland City Council is set to review Council’s policies and procedures to improve local government services such as road and waste and make Council policies more flexible and customer-friendly.

The Red Tape Reduction program will include a task-force made up of Councillors, community representatives with relevant skills and knowledge, and complementary senior officers, to advise on potential opportunities to improve efficiency in Council.

Council has also been asked to quickly identify options and recommendations for lower priority services that can be made more efficient in the short and long terms.
Current high cost/low value programs will be investigated to see if major reforms can be implemented over the long term to reduce their cost base or increase community benefits.
Mayor, Karen Williams, said that Council remains committed to engaging with all affected parties, including customers, contractors and employees.

“These initiatives are an important step towards achieving the cuts in red tape and a more responsive Council which I promised in my election campaign.

“We will not be making radical and unsustainable cuts. I want to ensure that resources in Council are used efficiently and are used to provide the services the community has been calling for,” Mayor Williams said.
“I want Council to get back to basics and provide real value to our ratepayers,” she added.
